This bar was torn down over 100 years ago after the city of Charlottesville voted to exercise “local option” and ban alcohol from being served in restaurants and bars.  Where was this bar located?  Reply below.

  1. Steve Trainum got it. If you look close, you can see part of the Albemarle County Courthouse on Court Square to the very right of the photo. You can also see the headquarters of the Daily Progress where it sat on 5th Street before moving around the corner onto Market Street. The Daily Progress had an anti-alcohol stance on its editorial page that likely effected the local prohibition that went into effect in 1907.
