Earlysville Oak

IMG_9239This centuries-old oak near the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport in Earlysville stands just a few hundred yards off the southern end of the runway.


IMG_7911Daffodils naturalized at the base of the old tree are a harbinger of Spring.

IMG_9246The rounded lobes of the leaves indicate this is a white oak.


IMG_1221For nearly a century and a half the old oak shared the ridge with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

IMG_9243In April, the wildflowers in the meadow surrounding the oak begin to bloom.
